And don’t worry, Christian dating as a man can still be fun!

Man praying over a Bible

1. Pray

The best advice we can give you when it comes to literally anything you have to do on this Earth is to pray. Before even thinking about starting to date, Christian men need to spend time in prayer. Pray for guidance, direction, strength, and the ability to find the right woman and keep your morals and faith at the forefront of the process.

Dating is fun and exciting, but it can also be challenging for Christian guys, especially with where secular society is and with the natural temptations of the flesh.

2. Avoid Dating Non-Christians

As a Christian man, there are never any situations where you should be dating a non-Christian. That may sound harsh, but it’s the reality. The entire goal of dating as a Christian man is to find someone to marry. And the Bible is quite clear that we shouldn’t be married to people who don’t share the same faith convictions and feelings that we do. And from a non-faith standpoint, dating someone who doesn’t hold the same values and goals as you is just a recipe for trouble.

14 “Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?” – 2 Corinthians 6:14

3. Know Where You Stand

No matter how far along you are in your walk with Christ, your flesh is still your flesh when you’re on this Earth. What that means is that you’re still going to face the same temptations as everyone else. When it comes to dating as a Christian man, this still includes things like premarital sex, lust, and many other things that can separate you from God.

But just because it’s going to be there no matter what doesn’t mean you can’t do things to prepare. After praying about the situation, it’s important to take some time and know what you stand for. If you’re wishy-washy on what you’re okay with doing and what you’re not, you will struggle when the temptation happens in real time.

The Bible says it best:

24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.” – Matthew 7:24-27

4. Have an Accountability Partner

In the Bible, Jesus and his disciples were not doing life alone. So if we’re to model our lives after Jesus’, why would we ever try to do things on our own? One of the best pieces of Christian dating advice for guys is to have an accountability partner. Have another Godly man that you trust who you can talk to about the process, before dates, and after dates. Have someone when you have temptations that you can reach out to in order to help you work through that.

5. Be Patient

There can be a lot of pressure from the Church sometimes to get into a healthy Christian relationship. And if that pressure isn’t coming from the Church, it might be coming from friends, family, or even more common—yourself.

Here’s the great news. God has a plan for your life, which means he has a plan for your love life as well. And that means that he has a schedule for that plan as well. If you try and rush things and worry about finding someone fast, you might get in the way of what God wants to happen.

We’re not saying not to be an active participant in the process. You should be sending messages, going on dates, and actively trying to meet someone. But what we don’t want you to do is to get anxiety, worry too much, and start trying to force something that isn’t right.

6. Have Fun

Sometimes dating can seem like a chore or even work. And when it comes to Christian dating as a man, it’s easy to get lost in rules, expectations, and the image of what you imagine things are supposed to look like.

While these things are important, it’s still important to keep having fun in the process. Remember, you’re looking to find a special woman who you’re going to spend the rest of your life with. If that doesn’t get you excited and ready to smile, you need to take a step back and refocus.
