While POF Starts Free, Paid Options Start at $11 a Month

Plenty of Fish (POF) is one of the oldest and most well known dating sites on the market. Based in Canada, the site launched in 2003 and has been incredibly popular with North Americans ever since. Now, the site is popular globally with many users in England, Australia, Brazil, Spain, and more.

One of the reasons POF is so popular is that they have an interesting cost structure. But, we know that success on a dating site takes more than a low bill. Does POF have the amenities you need to succeed? Are they keeping your data safe?

Today, we will break down the cost of Plenty of Fish and discuss everything that money is buying. If you want a clear picture on whether or not POF is worth your time and money, this guide is for you!

Plenty of Fish (POF) Membership Cost

Membership TypeMembership LengthMonthly CostTotal Cost
Premium3 months$20.94$62.82
Premium6 months$15.70$94.23
Premium12 months$10.47$125.64
1 TokenN/AN/A$3.99
5 TokensN/AN/A$14.95
10 TokensN/AN/A$19.90

One of POF’s main selling points is that it is incredibly affordable compared to other dating sites on the market. Sure, there are some totally free sites out there, but POF tries to strike a balance between the amenities of paid and the freedom of free.

Users have the option between three membership lengths. The longer you choose to pay for, the less it costs per month. This means that users who are willing to buy multiple months up front will save a lot of money over time.

One interesting detail about the cost of a POF membership is that there is no option to buy a single month of service. The minimum purchase is three months for $62.82 (or just under $21/month) .

It is strange because we feel that offering a month by month option could give purchasers even more control over the amount they spend on the site.

Plenty of Fish offers quite a bit to paid users (we discuss this later on), but they also know that not everyone is ready to make that leap.

Anyone that has used a dating site knows that it can be disappointing to read amazing things about premium features only to be let down by them after signing up for a recurring membership.

That’s why POF offers token purchases. This is a way for users to buy only a few tokens that can be redeemed for temporary benefits. Want to try a boost without paying for premium? Spend some tokens and test ride many of the premium features.

POF Token Prices

Tokens are currently available for:

  • $1.99 (1 token)
  • $8.95 (5 tokens)
  • $16.90 (10 tokens)

Whether paying for premium services or just buying a couple add-on tokens, POF knows that people like having payment options. That’s why they accept multiple forms of payments, including:

  • All major credit cards including Visa, MasterCard, American Express
  • PayPal
  • Apple Pay / iTunes Subscription
  • Google Pay/ Google Play

They do indeed. And in fact there are many factors that may impact the cost of POF membership including promotional rates, user location (region), length of subscription, amount of account activity, and number of previous purchases just to name a few. And while the company is clear about this their Terms of Use agreement does also state that the team will do their best to inform users of pricing changes before they go into effect (screenshot below):

POF’s Terms of use agreement has the answer for this one clearly laid out as well, and the answer is yes. Any POF premium subscription will auto-renew at the same rate as duration if not cancelled on time. Here’s a screenshot from section 8 of the Terms for further clarification:

By consenting to the site’s privacy policy (which you automatically do by using the app) you allow POF to keep your financial information on file as laid out in section #3. This is common practice among dating apps, but we point it out to let you know that they have the info, and with it they can and definitely will charge your credit or debit card.

If you’re worried about this Auto-Renewal policy or missing the cancellation deadline then we would advise preemptive cancellation of your subscription. You can always re-up, but doing this will keep you from incurring a charge you may not have wanted.
