Is Online Dating a Good Idea?

One of the most fun things about writing for an online dating review site is the ability to answer these types of questions. One of the most frustrating things, though, is that nine times out of ten, there is no clear answer. Surprise! Today is going to be no different. The answer to ‘Is online dating a good idea?’ is that it depends.

Good Idea

If you’ve found your way to this blog, you are either severely lost, or you’re trying to decide if you should give online dating a go. In this post, we’re going to walk you through a few key things that you need to know when trying to make this decision. Ultimately, it will depend on how the next few points reflect on your personal situation.

The Importance of the Why

The first thing that you have to consider when deciding if online dating is a good idea for you or not is why you are choosing to use it. If you just went through a nasty breakup, divorce, or traumatic experience, no form of dating might be right for you. You probably should be taking some time to get things right with you and your life before you look to include someone else.

Now, if you’re someone who isn’t having a lot of luck dating in the “real world” or you’re struggling to find quality and fitting matches within your current circles, online dating is going to be an amazing idea for you. Online dating will allow you to gain access to thousands and thousands of different singles that you would never even get the chance to meet without the use of this technology. If this is you, online dating is most certainly a good….or great idea for you.

The Time Commitment

If you’re someone who is struggling to find time to find love with your busy schedule, online dating may or may not be a great idea for you. Hooray, an even more confusing answer. Don’t worry; we will break down exactly what we mean.

If you’re someone who is so busy that you have zero free moments at any point in time, even online dating isn’t going to be able to help you. You’re going to need to figure out how to make at least some time or else you’re never going to find that special someone you’re looking for.

Now, what if you’re someone who does have a little bit of free time, but not enough time to go out and troll the bars or waste time on blind dates with people who you have no idea if they’re going to be good or not? If this is you, online dating is going to be a lifesaver for you. The reason that online dating has gotten so popular is that it helps people date more efficiently.

What does that mean? It means that it helps you to sort through thousands of people and find the people with the greatest potential to be a great fit for you. It then allows you to get to know and feel out these people a little bit before you commit any of your precious time to them.

Imagine it like you were shopping for a new car. Normal dating outside of online would be like having to drive a bunch of random cars in hopes that one worked out for you. You’d know little to nothing about each car before you drove it. This process would probably take you forever to finally find the car you wanted, or you’d just get tired of searching and settle for something that was okay.

Online dating is like a car search engine that allows you to sort through all of the cars by features and get rid of all of the ones that won’t work out for you. Then, instead of having to test drive hundreds of cars, you only have to test drive a few until you find the one that is the best fit for you. Basically, it’s going to save you a lot of time, money, and headache and will give you the best chance of finding that special someone.
