The Pros and Cons of Joining Multiple Online Dating Sites at Once

Online Dating

Congrats on making the decision to take a stab at online dating! If you’re just getting started, you probably found yourself here on your search for the best dating app for you. You’ve probably also noticed that there are a lot of options to choose from.

So, should you be looking for one perfect site or should you be “canvassing the neighborhood” and joining multiple sites?

Depending on who you ask, you’re going to get different answers. Some people are big fans of casting a wide net, and some are fans of finding the perfect lure and casting for perfection. Sorry if you don’t fish; that analogy probably made no sense. Basically, some people like to focus on one site, and some like to join as many as humanly possible 🙂

In this blog, we’re going to take a look at both options and break down the pros and cons of joining multiple sites at once. With our help, you’ll be able to decide which approach is the best for you.

The Pros of Joining Multiple Dating Sites at Once

More people! This is probably the biggest reason that people might be advocating that you join multiple sites at once. You 100% will have access to a lot more singles and more options to choose from. You’ll also have your face in front of a lot more people which means you should, in theory, receive more flirts, likes, and messages. While all of this sounds great, will it help you to better find that special someone?

The Cons of Joining Multiple Dating Sites at Once

Here comes the buzzkill train. Choo choo!!! If you’ve got your heart set on casting the wide net, we’re about to slice a hole in the bottom of it. While joining multiple sites might seem like a fantastic idea, it ends up being counterproductive. Have you ever offered ice cream to a child? Let’s look at two scenarios, and you tell me which works out better.

Scenario 1 – You offer the child the choice between chocolate or vanilla.

Scenario 2 – You offer the child the choice between 32 different wonderful flavors.

While the child would say scenario 2 is the best, we all know that all scenario 2 means is that you’ll be stuck there for hours while your kiddo tries to decide and suffers from option overload. We’re not trying to say that you all are children, but we are trying to prove a point that a lot of times too many options can create issues. It’s funny…as we searched for some supporting evidence on the topic, we stumbled on this article from the New York Times that lead off with our same ice cream example. They go on to say that psychologists are concluding that too many options can paralyze people or push them to make bad decisions.

The other issue is that you could easily end up overwhelmed with too much attention and you won’t be able to properly respond to people. This will burn bridges and could make for a disastrous process for you. If you don’t respond to someone for months because you physically don’t have the time, they probably won’t be interested when you finally “get around to them.”

What You Should Do

In our opinion, you should join one or two dating sites at a time maximum. This will allow you to focus on the matches and singles there and give them the TLC and attention they deserve. You won’t be burning any bridges anywhere else which could be important down the road.

If you’re dead set on playing the massive volume game (which we don’t recommend), here’s what you can do. Join two sites, but join for a short time frame. If you don’t find anyone special in that short time frame, then move on and try two other sites. Rinse and repeat until you find that special someone.

Honestly, if you’re considering this volume approach or are worried that one site might not be enough you aren’t giving online dating sites enough credit. The industry has come so far in the past few years, and with the right site, you can get all the attention you need and more.

Bottom line…pick a quality site and focus on quality and not a quantity approach. You will have better results and will find that special someone.
