Why Dating Site Prices Shouldn’t Matter

“Prices don’t matter? Yea, that’s something rich folks say. In case you hadn’t been to a garden center lately or a tree farm, money does not grow on trees.”

We know. We know. The title sounds absurd and believe it or not, it’s not a shock factor, click-bait type of title. We mean exactly what we said. The price of an online dating site shouldn’t matter (to a point).

What on Earth are we smoking and what are we talking about? Before we go any further, let’s get a few disclaimers out there. First, we are not about to tell you to go spend a bunch of money that you don’t have. Second, we are not advocating that you ignore trying to spend your money wisely.

The Importance of Online Dating

For you to fully understand why we should not be sent to the loony bin, we need you to understand exactly what you’re doing when you’re dating online. Dating online is NOT the same as shopping for some new clothes on Ebay. Dating online is NOT the same as shopping for a new car on CarMax. Dating online is NOT the same as shopping for makeup on whatever site they sell makeup on. Sorry, we guess the cat is out of the bag that it’s a male writing this article 🙂

The point is this. You’re not shopping for some new clothes or accessories that you may have for a few years until they get worn out, or you move on to something new. In fact, you’re not shopping at all. You’re searching for someone special.

You’re looking for that perfect person that you very well may end up spending the rest of your life with. You’re searching for someone you will share your intimate secrets with, possibly have kids with, and maybe even grow all old and wrinkly together with.

Is that something important? You’re literally looking for the person that could be the single most influential person in the rest of your life. Is that not worth a few bucks a month? We pay travel agents to help us book trips. We pay personal trainers to help us get in shape. We pay moving people to help us move our stuff. Why is it so absurd to imagine paying a few bucks to a company to help us find the single most important person for the rest of our lives?

If you’re not spending your money based on order of importance, you’re not very good at budgeting. If getting a few extra pounds off is more important than finding the love of your life, you can disregard this whole blog post.

But, if finding that support system, that special person to be your rock, the person that makes you get excited to get out of bed in the morning IS important, then the idea of spending a few bucks to find them should not freak you out.

It’s Less Expensive Than You Think

We were trying our best not to sound like a car salesman or something like that in the last few paragraphs. It’s tough, though, because we are passionate about this topic and think that everyone deserves to find love and happiness.

We also think that using technology like online dating can make the process simpler and more effective. Spoiler: The writer of this blog (who you already know is male) found the love of his life through online dating. Does he regret the few bucks he spent to find her? He DEFINITELY does not. Best investment of his life.

The great part about online dating sites is they are much less expensive than what you should be willing to pay for their services. Before this writer met their special someone, they would have been willing to pay hundreds a month if they knew they’d have luck. After they met that special someone, they look back and would have been willing to give all of their money to meet this person.

But you don’t have to do that. Online dating sites range anywhere from $10 a month to up around the $60 or $70 a month for some sites. If we had to guess off the top of our heads what the average was, it would probably be around $20 a month for the top tier dating sites. With the risk of sounding like a cheesy infomercial, that’s less than a dollar a day to get insanely effective help to find that special someone.

What if it takes you three months to find them? If it costs $20 a month, the total would be $60. Would you pay $60 to find the love of your life? Heck, I’d pay six with a lot more zeros behind it to find the special lady that I did.

You Have to be Willing to Invest In Yourself

The bottom line is that you have to be willing to spend a little money on your happiness. If you’re like us, you probably spend money on silly stuff all the time. If you stopped getting Starbucks once a week, you could pay for an awesome online dating membership. If you skipped going to the bar one night a month (maybe even one night every few months), you could pay for an online dating membership that would probably get you way more dates than the bar scene.

The point is this. You are important. Finding love is something you deserve because you are important. Invest in yourself. The cost shouldn’t matter, but thankfully it’s so low it really shouldn’t require much of a sacrifice.
