“There are plenty of fish in the sea!” If you’ve talked to literally anyone about your struggles with dating, the chances are super high that you’ve probably heard this cliché phrase. And it’s that cliché phrase that online dating site Plenty of Fish decided to build it’s brand dating back all the way to 2003.
But is the Plenty of Fish dating site worth it? Is it filled with quality singles or is it a haven for scammers, bots, and fake profiles?
Is POF Worth It? The Bottom Line Up Front
For us, POF looks like it might be a bit more trouble than it’s worth. Years ago, it was a no-brainer that this was a site you wanted to avoid because not only was it full of scammers, bots, and fake profiles, but the technology also lagged heavily behind the rest of the industry.
However, a few years ago, POF went through a complete rebranding and added a ton of new technology to the site. Did this make things better? Yes. However, we still get a lot of reports from people who say that the site is still rampant with fake profiles, bots, and other unsavory characters.
Should you give Plenty of Fish a second chance? That’s totally up to you. When we glanced around during our most recent Plenty of Fish review, we did notice that it looked like there were more real profiles and people than we saw last time. However, there were still accounts that looked questionable.
Here’s what we recommend. Unless you’re dead-set on using POF, consider checking out one of the other great dating app options on the market. Yes, these options will require you to pay a few bucks to use, but it’s 100% worth investing in your love life and happiness.
In the dating world, you get what you pay for. And when you stick to free dating apps, you’re going to run into problems. You can take advantage of free trials, though, to see if it’s worth upgrading or not. We’ve included some really helpful links for that below.
Update: Within in 2 minutes of creating our account, we received a message from someone who is clearly a scammer looking to collect emails and contact off the site:
“I liked you, this is my friend’s account, write your emaI|. I will write to you later and throw off the pic I hope you are not a pervert ahaha faster she takes my phone from me lol <3”
Nice try scammer. Plenty of Fish might not be worth the trouble.

Is It Worth Paying to Upgrade on Plenty of Fish?
So, POF now has paid subscription options that you may be thinking about getting. Is it worth it to pay to upgrade? Again, this is going to be up to you, but here’s what we think.
Probably not. You can only put so much lipstick on a pig. Is POF better than it used to be? Maybe. And if so, we’re totally open to updating this and our review. However, until we start to see the reports pile up that things are better, we’re sticking with our original conclusion.
