Is Dating.com Worth Your Time?

One of the most frustrating parts of online dating is when you’re not entirely sure about what you want. If you know the exact niche, the exact type of relationship, and the exact location of singles you want to meet—awesome. If not, you’re stuck juggling multiple dating sites to try and find something that works for you.

In reality, this is silly. There is nothing wrong with coming into online dating with an open mind. Thankfully, Dating.com understands this and is a welcomed alternative to the niched-down, laser-focused option currently on the market.

Our Dating.com review revealed a site that caters to all types or relationships, singles from all different niches, and even an international flair with the ability to meet singles locally or globally.

But is it worth your time? Does it deliver on that promise? Stay tuned for our Dating.com review as we help answer those questions once and for all.

What You Need to Know About Dating.com

One of the coolest things that stood out to us about Dating.com was its truly international flair. When you first log into your account and set your location, you’ll see a healthy mix of singles from your city but also from all over the world!

If you’re looking for a wide variety, you’ll love this. And if you’re only looking for people close to home, you can get that as well by setting your search parameters. It’s just nice to have that flexibility in both directions.

The app also has some live video functions where users can stream themselves with a chat room (called broadcasts), which is pretty unique (at least in the fun and clean realm). The site also operates on a credit-type system, which is a little different than the traditional subscription model, which is nice so that you can spend where you want to chat, read messages, send gifts, and more.

Overall, we’re fans of Dating.com and think at the very least it’s worth you checking it out.

  • Biggest Pro – Lots of users locally and from all around the world; unique dating experience worth checking out
  • Biggest Drawback – Some incomplete accounts here and there

If the site seems like a good fit, go ahead and give it a go. If you aren’t sure yet, we’d invite you to read on and check out our complete Dating.com review attached below.

Who Dating.com Is Good For

  • Those who want to be able to change their dating intentions on a regular basis.
  • Singles who prefer to send money on specific features versus an overall membership.
  • Those looking to avoid a strenuous sign up process/ verification requirements.

Who Dating.com Might Not Be Best For

  • Those who prefer sites that require photo or live chat verification for accounts.
  • Singles looking for a purely free dating app.
  • Those who prefer a single membership fee to an in-app currency approach.

Less features than other apps…

Dating.com isn’t particularly inundated with features. However, this tends to be beneficial to their payment system, which involves utilizing credits for actions. You wouldn’t want to have to pay for a dozen bonus features, so they keep the platform a bit minimalistic.

Don’t let that fool you into thinking Dating.com has nothing to offer!

We found a few smaller features that we really enjoy!

Today I Am

When it comes to dating apps that span casual and serious dating, we know that search settings make all the difference. While the breakdown of search filters for the singles themselves are pretty basic, we really like the settings regarding what you’re looking for.

If your dating goals tend to change based on your mood, you don’t need to jump into your settings and adjust your entire profile. You can switch between your intentions right on the search page with the “today I am” filter.

You can change the slider to choose whether you are looking for a pen pal, looking for something serious, feeling a bit flirty, feeling naughty, or seeking romance. This narrows your search down to others feeling the same way, which makes the results so much more relevant!

Video Chat

You might think having video chat functionality is a no brainer for modern dating, but you would be shocked how many platforms offer no such feature! Dating.com knows that meeting over video chat is the best way to ensure you have a real person on the other end of the digital line.

Integrated video chat is better than switching to Skype or another app for chatting because you can keep your personal contact information out of the hands of strangers.

Presents

Sending presents to your matches is a fun way to bridge the gap between digital romance and real-world relationships. You can spend your credits on gifts available in the “presents” section of the site and choose one to send directly to the doorstep of your match.

That’s right, these aren’t digital gifts. These are items that show up in real life for your match. The items vary based on what Dating.com has available, but they can range from flowers to small gift items and even chocolates or other treats.

International Dating

This isn’t really an advertised feature, but it is definitely a perk. With Dating.com being available in so many countries, it makes for a great place to meet people from other countries, whether you are looking for romance or just a pen pal. We especially love this feature for those traveling to foreign areas and needing local friends to help them acclimate.

Premium credits not subscription…

Dating.com doesn’t use a standard monthly rate. They are one of those “buy tokens and then spend them on basic features” kinda sites. Here is a breakdown of the cost of the tokens and then a look at how many tokens are spent on individual actions.

Membership Type# of CreditsTotal CostPrice Per Credit
Credits - Small Bundle150 Credits$49.99$0.33
Credits - Medium Bundle600 Credits$149.99$0.25
Credits - Large Bundle1500 Credits$299.99$0.20

So the basic features like sending messages cost 1 credit EACH. Then, sending emails and other push-style messages cost 10-15 credits each. The presents feature can cost anywhere from 5-1000 credits. It is pretty hefty.

Customer Support Options

The customer support section of Dating.com is made up primarily of a small selection of FAQs. We would definitely prefer to see this expanded in the future as even the search bar didn’t take us to answers to some pretty basic questions.

However, Dating.com does have a place to send either an email or WhatsApp message to a moderator for additional help, which we like.
